The BESS market in Romania is heating up, say local analysts and insiders. Irene Mihai, policy officer at the Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association (RPIA) recently told pv magazine that a realistic target for the utility-scale BESS segment in Romania “would be around 2 GWh (around 1 GW of installed capacity)” for 2030.
Once delivered, the five projects will see Romania meet 20% of its storage needs, according to the ministry’s announcement. Another EUR 300 has been allocated from the Modernization Fund – EUR 150 million each for this year and next year – and this is expected to deliver at least 3 GW of storage.
Sebastian Burduja, minister of energy, said storage is “the zero priority” of Romania’s energy system.
